Historically, pine tree substrate materials were made from recently fallen loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) trees that were chipped and then passed through screens with a size range of 3/16 to 3/8 inches in a hammer mill. The final output was largely a fibrous material with a mixture of particle sizes and shapes. The material’s ability to retain water was caused by the mixture of fibrous particle sizes, which was shared by some peat and pine bark substrates. Hardwood is the source of our wood chips.
In accordance with client requirements, we provide hardwood and softwood chips, complete trees, and mill residuals with bark or without. After being sorted to meet customer requirements, the pine wood chips are treated to become clean pine softwood chips.
